About Pixel Pitch

Pixel Pitch

The pixel pitch is the physical distance from one pixel to the next and is given in microns (µm). It is equal to the size of a pixel; however the actual area that captures light may be slightly smaller, since photodiodes are the only light-sensitive elements on the modern active pixel CMOS sensors. Because some cameras, such as Sony A7S III, use internal 2x2 pixel binning without exposing it, the pixel pitch listed here may not correspond to the true (physical) pixel pitch. Likewise, cameras such as the Insta360 X4 / X5 have more than two sensors, so the calculated pixel pitch may not be accurate.
